Canadian Association on Gerontology (CAG) 2024 Conference in Edmonton, Alberta
This October, UBC IDEA Lab proudly showcased our commitment to advancing care for older adults at CAG 2024. Our team presented 14 posters and several impactful co-presentations, sharing our latest innovations aimed at enhancing well-being, promoting inclusivity, and supporting older adults through technology and person-centered interventions.
Highlights from UBC IDEA Lab’s CAG 2024 Presentations:
- Virtual Reality (VR) Programs: Dr. Lillian Hung and Dr. Jim Mann’s co-presentation on Co-Creating VR Programs delved into how VR can enrich care experiences, particularly for patients living with dementia.
- Sleepsense Project: Presented on October 25, our VCHRI-supported Sleepsense Project explored bed sensor sleep technology’s impact in geriatric settings, sparking dialogue on interdisciplinary teamwork in enhancing patient care.
- Innovative Robot-Assisted Initiatives: From the CALM robot for deep breathing exercises to social robots in long-term care, we highlighted our research on enhancing engagement and well-being among older adults.
- Telepresence Robots and Silent Disco Parties: Focusing on creative engagement, we presented studies on telepresence robots and intergenerational silent disco parties, showing how technology can foster meaningful connections in long-term care environments.
Our work was made possible by our dedicated patient and family partners, students, and healthcare collaborators. Special congratulations to Joey Wong, recipient of the Donald Menzies Bursary, for her contributions in VR immersion and dementia-friendly environments!
