Learning Health Systems: Project Update (February 2024)
Our project was so privileged to have the opportunity to engage with Indigenous elders, health care staff, health system administrators, individuals, families, peers and community partners in the Vancouver Coastal Health Community in two sessions to co-design LHS:
Online Storytelling Session (June 2023):
- 20 participants joined to discuss: “Why do we need LHS?”
- Exchange of stories and experiences based on guiding questions:
- What is working well in your health care system?
- What is not working well in your health care system?
In-person Design Jam Co-design Workshop (February 2024):
- 24 participants gathered to discuss: “What does a LHS for VCH Community look like?” and “How can we build a LHS?”
- Workshop activities:
- Participants learned about the LHS concept
- Small group co-designing
- Six small groups, each focuses on one of six pillars that could build a LHS
- Participants brainstormed together what each pillar could look like for the VCH Community and how each pillar can work with one another to strengthen LHS
- The six pillars are:
- Social, Community & Equity
- Legal & Ethical
- Science & Research
- Data & Technology
- Policy, Process & Resources
- Indigenous Leadership & Participation
- Large group discussion
- Group debrief
- Where to next?
