EDI.I Workshop (Weaving Relations Course)
IDEA Lab invites you to join the EDI.I course Tuesdays at 12 pm.
What is EDII and what does it stand for?
EDI.I stands for Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Indigeneity. These values are fundamental to UBC and serve as part of the university’s mission statement. It specifically explains “Inclusion inspires teamwork and innovation. Diversity sparks creativity. Equity represents opportunity, trust, and the foundational resources for productive relationships. Indigenous awareness facilitates collaboration and learning from the land and its people.”
This is why IDEA committed to enrolling in the Weaving Relations course.
What is the Weaving Relations course?
Weaving Relations is a collaborative course created by the Faculty of Applied Science and the Faculty of Land and Food Systems, with a focus on self-directed learning.
This course delves into the exploration of Indigenous histories, cultures, and environments, while also examining the impact of settler colonialism in Canada. Through the perspective of Indigenous – Canadian relationships, the course analyzes the past to understand our current situation and seeks ways to foster a more promising and harmonious future through collective efforts.
How does IDEA Lab organize the course?
Samaa ElSayed, a Work Learn lab member is organizing the workshop. We started on Tuesday, July 11th, and followed with every Tuesday after that. We invite lab members, including patient and family partners to watch, read, and discuss every module. We delve into conversations about how the lab can incorporate the teachings of the course to ensure we are embodying EDI.I in our research, workspace, and environment.
We also provide food and refreshments to enjoy while learning. Our upcoming workshop is dated Tuesday, August 8th at our location in UBC Hospital at 12 pm. We invite you all to join us. We will be covering modules 4 and 5, “Harm is Not Historical And Groundwork for Growth”. It will be in Room 291 – the VR room of UBC Hospital on 3rd floor, in the School of Nursing.
