Relationship between physical health and dementia

New research from the Journal of Cachexia, Sarcopenia and Muscle suggests that older women who experienced the greatest drop in muscle function were several times more likely to develop dementia than their counterparts.

Clinical professor Dr. Roger Wong and UBC Nursing’s Dr. Lillian Hung commented on the relationship between physical health and dementia in the article by Toronto Star’s Kevin Jiang, which goes over this new study.

As Dr. Hung notes, while the data this article refers to has rigorous data, it cannot be said that there is causality between impaired muscle function in women and dementia, over correlation.
